Leeds School is in Benson County in northcentral North Dakota on U.S. Highway #2. An athletic cooperative involving Leeds and Maddock is called the Benson County Wildcats. The Leeds area is a sportsman's paradise with world class hunting and fishing. Agriculture is the main industry producing abundant amounts of wheat, canola, corn, soybeans, and several varieties of beans.
 
 
Leeds Elementary had 10 entries win at the 2012 North Dakota State Student Art Show held at the Taube Museum of Art in Minot. The North Dakota State Student Art show will run until Sun. April 29th. Hours are 10:30-5:30 Tues.- Fri. and 11:00-4:00 on Sat.
This year there were 581 entries from across the state. Blayne Anderson, Gr. 3 won the Northern Visions Award and will have his watercolor, "Sunflower", hang in Senator Hoeven's office for a year. Grade 5, Caitlyn Blazer's watercolor, "Fall", won the Taube Museum Art of Excellence Award. Susan Braun coordinates the Leeds Elementary Art Program. Six students were selected to be part of the 2012 Traveling Art show:
•Ryan Wangler, Gr. 6, had two pictures selected which were a watercolor, "Animal Eyes" and a ink stamping, "Cave Drawings"
•Dillon Parent Grade 5, "Oriental Landscape"
•Carson Tracy, Grade 3, and his collage, "Chameleon
•Brock Hanson, Gr. 1, for his Japanese printed "Gyotaku Fish"
•Zoe Lauckner ,Gr. 4, "Myself"
•Shelby Follman,, Gr. 4, "Tar Beach" collage.

2012 State Fish Stamp

Winners in this years 2012 State Fish Stamp Contest have been announced. Jarrel McGarvey won first place for North Dakota and Shelby Follman received 3rd place. Congrats to both students and Susan Braun, Elementary Art Teacher!
Each state's winner will have the opportunity to join talented young artists from across the country at the 14th Annual State-Fish Art EXPO June 15th and16th at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. All winning artwork will be on display and an awards ceremony at the Clinton Presidential Center will recognize the winners before the crowd. Each winning artist, attending the EXPO, will receive great prizes, art supplies, goodie bags, and fishing supplies from Rapala.
Everyone can vote for Jarrel's fish stamp in the People's Choice Award. The People's Choice Award will be determined by a world-wide public online vote through links on the State-Fish Art website www.StateFishArt.org and on the Contest Fan page:www.facebook.com/StateFishArtContest. Online voting will begin on Friday, May 11th and conclude on Sunday, June 10th with additional votes collected in person at the State-Fish Art EXPO.
Over 71,000 votes were cast in the 2011 contest!
